Connaught Partnerships named RCT Homes contractor
£30 million contract awarded

25/06/08

RCT Homes has named Connaught Partnerships a long term contracting partner in its work to upgrade more than 10,000 homes in the Rhondda Cynon Taf area.

Connaught has been awarded two contracts in the order of £6 million per year for the next five years to deliver a capital works improvement programme to more than 2500 of the homes.  To carry out the contract Connaught is expanding its south Wales workforce with the creation of 80 jobs in the valleys area.

RCT Homes became the largest social landlord in Wales on its creation in December of last year, following the formal transfer of social housing stock and services from Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
RCT Homes now plans to invest £170m over the next five years.
Connaught has been awarded contracts for the installation of new kitchens and bathrooms and electrical rewiring. The company has also been awarded a smaller contract to fit new front and back doors to properties, subject to survey.
Surveyors from Connaught will visit more than 600 RCT Homes properties in the next 12 months to assess the work required.
Andrew Lycett, RCT Homes chief executive, said: “The planned investment is testament to the commitment that we have to our tenants. As a community mutual, our ultimate aim is ensure that we deliver the best possible standard of living to our tenants. We are delighted that Connaught is on board to deliver a top quality standard of works to homes in the region.

“Tenants from across the area sit on our project board and are consulted every step of the way – including selecting and awarding the contracts.”

Geoff Thomas, Connaught Partnership’s Area Director, said: “We are delighted to be working with RCT Homes in delivering a greater standard of living to its tenants. Connaught is committed to improving the communities in which we work and providing a service that puts our customers first.”

Connaught is the UK’s leading provider of asset management services to local authorities and registered social landlords, providing a full range of housing maintenance and estate management services. It is committed to working with social housing landlords and local authorities to achieve the Welsh Assembly Government’s Housing Quality Standards 2012 target.
